Sorry about not posting recently, if anyone still reads this. If you do, please comment- it’s nice to know if at least one person reads my blawg.

My previous post (quite a while ago now) about that song called Duality- I’ve handed vocals over to Hania, who unfortunately seems to be dragging her feet a little. I’ve bugger a while about it, but it’s been nearly two months now. In the new year, I shall rant on her again D:

Next year, I hope to be doing a weekly blog, probably on Sunday midday/afternoon. It would be good to keep a blog of some sorts, maybe to look back on it- maybe just something to do I wanna loose some weight, so maybe I’ll post how much I’ve lost that week, and a cumulative total of weight lost since the start of the year. Maybe

I got Rock Band! XD Tis pretty awesome. So I don’t think I’ll be making any more music any time soon

So yeah, check this space after the new year beings. Wish me luck…

Another WIP

The Aphex Twin inspired song has kind of dried up for me- I’m not sure where to take it from there. I’ve done absolutely nothing to it since I posted it on here. Rather annoying, but there’s nothing I can do about that. I’m just going to leave it alone, and pick it up again in a few weeks maybe. Fresh start

But, in the meantime, I’ve picked up another project! And this one is going a lot better, and a lot faster too.

I originally thought of the melody back when I was doing my song Diagram (back in February), but the song strayed away from the style that could use the melody, so it just got stuck in the project file, and forgotten.

I recently thought of some lyrics that fit exactly with the melody, so I picked it up real quick while I still had inspiration and got to work on this!

I’m quite excited, cause it’s my first song with my own vocals and lyrics. Even though the style is quite generic, I hope that I can spice it up a bit with some creativity.

Also, my friend Firewave is working on a remix, alongside me still creating the original track! Which is quite fun. His remix sounded so crazy and original. We think it sounds like some weird action movie soundtrack.

So, here’s my song, codenamed ‘Duality’. Keep in mind it’s a work in progress

Well, those are the lyrics so far. Obviously, I’ll have more verses (maybe 2/3, I need to replace how they repeat the same one so far), maybe an altered chorus too.

I’ll try to record better vocals too, I’m not entirely happy with these so far- they were kind of rushed, and I wanted to get on with the song anyway.

Finally working on some new music - Aphex Twin style

I’ve been listening to a lot of Aphex Twin recently, and suddenly got inspiration for this guitar thing, which would go great with some glitchy drums and samples. I’m gonna cut up the guitar and make that glitchy too, but later on in the tune. Might try out some voice synthesizers, see if I can somehow include those in the mix.

I’m not happy with the volume of the hi-hats at the beginning, or the drum fill to introduce the drums. But ah well, it’s a WIP with a whole lot of progress to go.

Going to the beach - with friends!

Ok, maybe I am a bit addicted to going to this West Wittering place. But it’s such a great beach, soft sand and quite good waves (by British standards, anyway).

So I went with 3 friends- Alex, Paul and Shan. And mum- cause she’s the only one who can drive, and the only one who would want to pay for food and parking

We played some GTA4 while we had a bit of lunch. I think we may have found the funniest thing do to- driving a car at high speeds and jumping out, trying to hit as many cars along the way. The physics on the game make it so funny, cause the guy just bounces and flys around. Makes for good slapstick humour.

After lunch we headed down to the beach. It was good. Swam in the sea, splashed about. Discovered that rugby tackles are quite funny when waist-deep in water.

Played a bit of bowls too, which was interesting. Sometimes the sand was really soft, so the balls didn’t roll at all, then other times it was rock hard. We all laughed at Paul when he was approximating; “Now the sand here looks soft so if I roll it fast it should land quite nicely”, and then his bowl ran half way down the beach over hard sand. Lawl.

The bbq was nice too. It was too windy on the beach to even light the bbq, so we headed back up to the car with all our stuff. It was cool having all the food in the boot of the car, bbq on the grass near the car, and music playing loud from the speakers

After that, we couldn’t be bothered to go in th sea, but still wanted to stay at the beach, so we made a big mound of sand. Yeah, that’s right. A big lump. Not even a sand-castle. Just a bit lump cause it was awesome.

Then we destroyed it.

It was a good day.

My site got ripped!

Had a cool idea to make the site look a bit more interesting than just white blocks on a red background. I edited a few images of ripped paper, and now the top and bottom of the content box is ripped I think it looks pretty neat, and gives it a bit of an organic, natural feel. Just take a look the top and bottom of this page!

I came up with the idea, but when I tried to code it into the site myself, I got extremely confused, got no-where and nearly broke the site’s layout D:

But luckily, my friend John was more than happy to help. He’s like a professional web designer and coder, so he knows his way around a php file.

But, even he said the coding on Wordpress sites is damn confusing and messy. Wordpress is designed to make it extremely easy for the end user to publish their content, but that comes at a cost. With the website tripping over itself to make it easy for the ‘end-user’, it makes everything ‘behind the scenes’ extremely chaotic and messy. There’s files calling information from other files and css styles, and… bah. It’s confusing. After like 2 hours of John and I trying to get this to work, he finally did it, and it looks great. Thanks John ^^

(random) Picture dump

I can’t sleep. And I’m extremely bored. So, I’m dumping some random photos on here. Not particularly exciting, just random and it gives me something to do.

A cool plant I found at Gunwharf Quays (local outlet store place). It had a rubbery texture. Sorry about the bad focus and blur.

A thermostat I spotted while practising in a church (yeah, I know) with my band. Looks like it’s pretty happy about something.

A picture one of my cousins did. I took this for my mum, cause the Rs stand for something to do with a teaching scheme, but I just thought it looked funny. Rrr…

Me being the most awesome of all superheroes- Cone Wizard! This was near a friend’s house, when we were just messing around on his birthday. Not a very flattering shot for me (or the guy next to me scratching his pit), but funny nonetheless. Probably my favourite picture in this post.

So, that concludes the random picture dump. How sucky was that? At least I feel a bit sleepier now, I might be able to get to sleep.

Oh, not boring stuff down here!! I am going to the beach with 3 friends for a BBQ, and I’ll bring my phone to take some shots. Should be good fun, and good blogging material

Going to the Beach - East Head Spit

So I went to the beach today, West Wittering beach, to be precise.

In geography we’re going to do a project next term, on a hypothesis about West Wittering beach in general. We have to come up with our own hypothesis, something like “Is West Wittering a good tourist resort”, or “Is WW a stable and sustainable beach”. Something like that. Then we have to do a big project proving or disproving that hypothesis. It’s a bit heavy going really. We were looking at some projects people did last year, and they were like 50 pages long! Some of the pages were just like a big picture or some graphs, but it’s still a rather big project to be compelted by October.

But, today I did the better part of the project. Went to the beach with my Mum, and just took lots of pictures I’ll sort out later how I’m going to use them in my project, but it was fun to do them today- I guess it’s proving that I’ve finally broken up from school.

So, when we were driving there, it was nearly lunchtime so we went into Chichester first and had pasties from The West Cornwall Pasty Company And they were rather good

When we got to West Whittering it was rather windy, which made my hair go all over the place- that was rather annoying. But, it was quite warm for how windy it was, so that was ok. Some people were wearing huge jackets and thick jeans cause of the wind, I was just wearing a tee and surf shorts cause it was so warm. Mum brought
this frisbee thing for us to chuck around, but the wind kept blowing it waaay off course, so we gave up.

The actual bit of the coast that I’m studying in school at the moment is the East Head Spit, which comes off the West Wittering Beach. It’s like a big deposit of sand, trailing off the east of Wittering into a river mouth. It’s only connected to the beach by a tiny stretch of sand, and if it gets cut off it will get washed away- which is why we’re studying it to see how they’re defending it to keep it as an “Area of Natural Beauty”.

Me and my mum did a full circle of the Spit, so I could get pictures of all the different parts, and all the sea defences put up. It’s a really nice walk, but not many people were walking today as the weather was a bit too windy for most.

The sand on the spit was so soft! It was great. Most of the people only go on the Wittering Beach, because the currents round the Spit are too great to bathe in, I think it’s all flagged off by the coastguard. But they’re all missing out sorely- I walked round most of the spit in bare feet it was so soft.

It was really peaceful there, listening to the waves (they were pretty good ones cause of the wind), hearing the birds as they nest in the middle of the spit, it was really calm. And the lack of people there just added to the quiet atmosphere.

I took lots of pictures! I pretty much cleaned out my phone’s memory so I wouldn’t need to worry about running out of space. It was great fun, and was a good change from school work. I hope I can have lots more days like this as the holidays go on.

So, finally we have been released from the prison that is Oaklands Catholic School. For 7/8 weeks at least. I’m a bit miffed though, cause I was talking to a friend from America, he says they get like… 3 months or something off for summer :c
But, as it was the last day, Oaklands always tries to make the first half the most boring morning ever conceived since last years last day. (If that makes any sense) First, they have a whole school mass, hence the “Catholic School” part of their name. Rather irrelevant to me now, as I’m now atheist. But, I just sit there and daydream, none of the teachers mind- and I think they can empathise with the kids having to sit there packed like sardines in the hall.

Then, just as we think it’s going to get better… what’s this? End of year report? Crap. Basically, it’s the sixth form students telling us what’s happened over the last year, even though we do actually go to the school. Thanks a lot guys. Thanks for wasting my last day
And THEN, they have awards to give out, which like 1/2 of the kids in every class get, so it takes a while to get through them. My hands were red and sore afterwards from clapping.

Anyway, after a broootal morning, we have lunch and get ready for the end of year concert. Well, my lunchtime was spent chasing round to find drums and the lead singer, which are both rather crucial to the performance. (Just a bit)
The song we played was Black Stone Cherry’s Rain Wizard. Rather awesome rock song with very nice drums, vocals and a ripping wah solo.

S’all good. I think most people at the concert liked it too, judging by their applause and shouting
We were up first, which was good in a way, cause we could set up everything at lunchtime, and no-one would mess around with drum positions, guitar amp settings etc before we came on.
It all went good and it was an awesome end to the day.

So, I’ve got 6 weeks off now! Woo hoo. Just the right time to start a blog I guess- when I’m doing absolutely jack
But, I’ll be going out with friends lots, going to West Wittering beach, and taking lots of pictures, so I’ll blog about that
And, AND AND I’m going to Alton Towers with my good friend Alex, and staying over, which will be bloody awesome. But that’s in September. The two days we go back to school. Pretty ironic really. I’m looking forward to September.

In other news, I found a video which proves that Disney Channel rubbish is better when played backwards.

Track 10, the final one, on Kaburorne
So, the last track on this album. I had this idea floating round, and put it up in the Other Stuff section, cause I didn’t know what to do with it. While I was working on it, Hania messaged me about doing some more collaboration, which I was really excited about. So I worked a bit faster on this track, so I could get it out the way before Hania’s project, and also to get back into the swing of composing on FL. The name comes from two things. While I was doing this tune, lots of stuff was happning in my life, so causing different emotions. And also, the song can be taken in different perspectives, and therefore cause different emotions.

Apathie

I wanted to do some more techno, as I had that catchy main melody going round in my head. It’s kind of ‘Traverse revisited’, so I can brush up on my trance skills.
It’s called Apathie cause this track was a bit… uninspired. I just made it cause I could, rather than I was really inspired by something awesome and original. I guess I was feeling a bit of apathy for my musical skills and inspiration.

Ebb and Flow

The idea just kind of popped into my head, and I made it in FL Studio. I think this track is as simple as that. While I was working on this track I showed it to my on-line friend, Kaeishii. She said she should really get into this and dance do it, which kind of gave me incentive to finish it, cause someone was actually enjoying this tune. Kaeishii belly-dances, and she said she’d try and do a performance to this song near the end of the year at her belly-dancing club, which is rather awesome Hopefully I’ll be able to post a video of the performance sometime on here.

Track 7 on Kaburorne
The theme for this one was supposed to be clean, ornate and serene versus gritty, thick and distorted. It came about a bit lighter than my original concept. I was listening to a lot of minimal music when making this tune, hence the long intro and repeating chord patterns. It got terrible ratings on Newgrounds cause idiots can’t be bothered to listen to a track for more than one minute and get past the intro. Ah well.

Repairing Remnants

Track 5 on Kaburorne
This track was another collaboration, but with a fellow electronic musician- Project Smammi. I showed him a loop (the first bass and synth stab part) that I was getting no-where with, then he sent it back with some drums. It kind of just passed between us like that until the end. The title ‘Repairing Remnants’ comes from the guitar part, which was recorded by me, then sliced into chunks and re-arranged. So the guitar has been shattered in some kind of robotic, chemical war, and a rebel organisation is trying to piece it back together to restore their race. Or something like that. It made for a trippy conversation on msn with Gnome, anyway.

Silver Memory

Track 4 on Kaburorne
This is arguably the track I’m most proud of. It started out that I heard the original by Hania, and noticed in the description she wanted to collab with someone on it. It was great fun collaborating with her, she’s a very friendly and supportive person.
As you can hear I really wanted to make a U-turn on the style. I still wanted it to be powerful and melodic, but in a different way.
The Newgrounds community loved it, and it got on the top scoring list. My only song with lyrics, yet.
